 Why we should avoid USING PLASTIC BAGS?
Plastic bags litter the land and the seas. Each year more and more plastic bags end up littering the environment. Once they become litter, plastic bags find their way into our waterways, parks, beaches, and streets. And, if they are burned, they infuse the air with toxic fumes.
Plastic bags kill animals. About 100,000 marine animals such as dolphins, turtles whales, penguins are killed and coral reefs are destroyed every year due to plastic bags. Many animals eat plastic bags, mistaking them for food; thus killing them. And worse, the ingested plastic bag remains intact even after the death and decomposition of the animal. Thus, it lies around in the landscape where another victim may ingest it.
Plastic bags are non-biodegradable. And one of the worst environmental effects of plastic bags is that they are non-biodegradable. It will take 1000 years for a plastic bag to fully decompose.
Petroleum is required to produce plastic bags. As it is, petroleum products are diminishing and getting more expensive by the day, since we have been using this non-renewable resource increasingly. Petroleum is vital for our modern way of life. It is necessary for our energy requirements – for our factories, transport, heating, lighting, and so on. Without viable alternative sources of energy yet on the horizon, if the supply of petroleum were to be turned off, it would lead to practically the whole world grinding to a halt. Surely, this precious resource should not be wasted on producing plastic bags, should it?
 beansprout believes that great things start from small beginnings. Just like a tiny beansprout, with a little water and sunlight soon blooms into a beautiful green. With beansprout, every humble desire to save the environment starts with the simplest of actions.
Christmas is 37 days away and we are sure that you’re all about to start your shopping. Give beansprout products this year and HELP educate family and friends regarding the importance of using reusable bags and the harmful effects of using non-biodegradeable plastic bags. In your own little way, help save the environment this Christmas.
 Last October, Beansprout collected donations and pledges from family and friends to donate to the victims of typhoon Ondoy. Generous relatives and friends from the Philippines and US pitched in this great endeavour to help fellow Filipinos in this time of crisis. They were able to raise around P290,000 plus boxes of assorted goods and clothes in a span of 3 days and were able to help hundreds of families who have lost their possessions, homes, and even members of their family.
Donations were able to reach out to families on the following areas: Tulong Bayan Relief Center, Ateneo Task Force Ondoy, House of Refuge in Provident Village and and a barangay in Novaliches, Quezon City. THANK YOU FOR HELPING US HELP. Watch out for our upcoming Ondoy Christmas Relief Operations this December. For those interested to help out, leave us a private message.
